The Dirt on Laundry Rooms

Updated: Mar 28

Inspired, functional spaces help get the dirty jobs done with ease in our homes. Laundry rooms are no exception. Making the space somewhere you enjoy will make the work breeze by. Whether you want a crisp, colorful, or serene laundry room, here are some KLI inspired ideas.

Start with the flow and function of your space. What are your needs? Creating spacial flow is at the core of good design, especially for a workhorse space. Pick easy to clean, durable materials. Shelving, cabinetry, and baskets help keep things organized and accessible. A cool idea is to incorporate sliding cabinet doors to conceal your washer and dryer. Also, consider having hang space for delicates and items to hang dry. Utilize the space above the washer and dryer with a counter to fold clothes or to place things. A sink is always an asset to a utility space. If you have kids or pets, this space could also incorporate crafts, art, and pet supplies.

A spoon full of sugar really can help the medicine go down. Make the space fun! Wallpaper is a great way to add interest. Tile can also add a splash of color or texture. Try a colorful tile accent or a pattern on the floor or wall.

Perhaps you crave a serene space for chores. Natural light, neutral colors, and plants can give a sense of balance and connection to the outdoors. Soft blues and greens are calming and can keep the space feeling light as well as the task of cleaning.

Combining a Butler’s Pantry and a Laundry Room can be a high-functioning idea. Pulling the same style of cabinetry from the kitchen can help keep a cohesive feel throughout your home.
